As with most things in life, prevention is better than cure, and water damage to smartphones is no different. Try to keep your phone out of reach of puddles and pools and don’t expose your phone to extremely humid areas (like showers)
However, there are instances where nothing can be done, but you can take steps to minimise the damage:

• Do not turn it on
• Do not press any buttons or keys
• Do not shake, tap or bang the phone
• Do not blow on it. This could send water into other internal parts of the phone that it hadn’t already reached, causing more damage in the process
• Do not heat it up

What you trying to do is limit the amount of water that gets into the phone and its distribution. You are trying to keep the damage contained to the areas that have already gotten wet. Turning on the phone could cause an immense short and completely fry the phone so you want to avoid that at all costs.
